POULSBO — It’s Election Day. Polls close at 8 p.m. The two top finishers in each race on the primary ballot will advance to the Nov. 8 general election.

Ballots must be postmarked today. Ballots can be dropped off until 8 p.m. at Poulsbo Fire Station, 911 NE Liberty Road, Poulsbo; Bainbridge Senior Community Center, 370 Brien Drive, Bainbridge Island; Kitsap Regional Library, 1301 Sylvan Way, Bremerton; and the County Administrative Building, 619 Division St., Port Orchard.

On the ballot in North Kitsap: A seat on the Port of Kingston Commission, and a seat on the North Kitsap School Board. Stories about the results will be posted after 8:15 p.m. when the first unofficial results are expected to be reported by the county Auditor’s Office.

As of Tuesday morning, 34 percent of the Kingston Port District’s 1,625 voters had returned ballots, Elections Manager Dolores Gilmore said. Some 22.9 percent of the North Kitsap School District’s 22,297 voters had cast ballots.

Gilmore initially thought the voter turnout countywide could be 40 percent, but that percentage could be brought down by low voter turnouts in areas where there may be one issue on the ballot, she said.

In the North Kitsap School District, voters will choose among Julie Edwards, vice president of the district’s Citizens Budget Review Committee; Scott Henden, a local businessman and assistant sports coach in the district; and Val Torrens, president of the school board. School board members serve four-year terms. School board members are in charge of the district budget, hiring staff and evaluating the superintendent.

In the Kingston Port District, voters will choose among longtime commissioner Tom Coultas; Walt Elliott, chairman of the Kingston Ferry Advisory Committee; and Jerry Kirschner, chairman of the port’s Passenger Ferry Advisory Committee. Port commisioners serve six-year terms.
