POULSBO — Two candidates in the Nov. 3 election noticed dozens of their election signs have gone AWOL, but they aren’t too concerned.

City Council candidate Jim Henry and candidate for mayor Becky Erickson said Tuesday they have each lost up to $250 in signs from around town. Henry and Erickson have several signs in prominent locations. The incumbents the two are challenging, Mayor Kathryn Quade and Councilwoman Kim Crowder, have not initiated a sign campaign at the same level as their competitors.

But Quade said when her signs go up, she expects some to vanish.

“It’s one of the unfortunate things about campaigns,” she said.

Neither Erickson nor Henry has filed a report with the police, and both said they didn’t want to draw attention to the disappearing signs.

Erickson said about 60 newly-posted signs went missing over the weekend, valued at about $250.

“It’s more time than anything else,” Erickson said.

She reported the signs missing to the police, but did not request a report be taken, said Assistant Poulsbo Police Chief Shawn Delaney.

“This is part of running a campaign,” she said.

Delaney said patrol officers have been notified of the presumed thefts.

“Just to be aware that this is going on,” Delaney said.

Henry noticed about 30 of his signs were missing by the morning of the election Aug. 18. That amounts to most of the signs he has posted.

“I don’t know, somebody’s having fun,” Henry said, estimating the signs cost him “a couple hundred bucks.”

Henry said he doesn’t see malice in it, and said he plans to replace the signs.

“I will in due time,” he said.
