“KINGSTON – Hula hoops, hot rods, poodle skirts and saddle shoes could all be seen at the My Girl Drive-In Monday. in a few months, KCTS Channel 9 producers hope the My Girl will be seen all over Western Washington. Crews for the public television station were at My Girl filming a blast from the past complete with a vintage automobile show and Elvis. The footage will be used for the series Connects, which airs at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The series is current on hiatus but producers said they hope to get My Girl in one of the fall shows. The My Girl is the brainchild of Kingston resident Bob Thompson, who spent more than $1 million to capture the 1950s right down to every detail. The museum of sorts is primarily used for class reunions, wedding receptions and other special events. Thompson also opens My Girl to senior citizens and other community groups. The footage will also be used as part of a pilot program for a series about nostalgia. Roller Rita was there and so was Elvis. Aaaaaaaaa The screams are shrill but not loud enough to block out the smooth sounds of Presley impersonator Danny Vernon, 31, of Edgewood. In his third appearance at My Girl he gave a sample of the King’s greatest hits. The audience and sharing a song that moves me, Vernon said is his favorite part of performing.
