BURIEN — Port Orchard’s Emily Houston is one of three Kitsap County girls who will be competing against 25 other contestants, ages 13-17, in the Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen pageant.
The competition is set May 24 and 25, at the Highline Performing Arts Center. Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen the “little sister” to Miss Washington and Miss America.
Promoting scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for Washington’s teens, contestants will be judged on personal interview, talent, evening wear and on-stage question, academic achievement and lifestyle and fitness in active wear.
Houston, Miss Northwest’s Outstanding Teen, is a sophomore at South Kitsap High School and Relay for Life is her community platform. She will participate at South Kitsap’s Relay for Life as both a team captain and as the committee’s Survivorship chairperson this year. Houston will be singing for her talent.
Other Kitsap County teens in the pageant are Bremerton’s Kelsey Kim, the current Miss West Sound’s Outstanding Teen and freshman at Olympic College, and Kaile Brant, Miss Puget Sound’s Outstanding Teen, a sophomore at Central Kitsap High School.
The contestants will be in Burien for rehearsals and activities surrounding the pageant for a few days before the event. The first preliminary competition will be May 24 at Highline starting at 7 p.m. and the final night will be on May 25 at 6 pm.

Miss America’s Outstanding Teen is a scholarship-based program offering accomplished teens the opportunity to be awarded funds for college.
