INDIANOLA — Traffic is back to normal on Indianola Road.

Kitsap County Public Works has stabilized the slope that had eroded under a portion of the road near Evergreen Avenue on Jan. 11. According to Indianola Port Commissioner John Lane, both lanes were back open late Jan. 13; the lanes were closed earlier that day while Public Works did the restoration work.

Lane believes the temporary closure of the road did not have a negative impact on the community. “There’s more than one way to get into Indianola,” he said. He noted that a lot of residents used Kingston Street as an alternate route.

Christy Frivoth, a clerk at the Indianola Country Store, said the road work did not seem to affect business Jan. 13. She took Kitsap Street as an alternate route and believes many of her customers did the same.

Doug Bear, Kitsap County’s public communications manager, said some ancillary work was performed on Indianola Road Jan. 14 to ensure the roadway is cleaned up. He’s confident the erosion was a one-time occurrence.

“It didn’t undermine the road’s structure,” he said. “I don’t anticipate any problems in the future.”
