Fanfare lights up Point No Point

Non-profit group ready to accept memberships to support the lighthouse.

The Great Lighthouse Hunt took place Aug. 12-13 out at Point No Point Lighthouse, sponsored by the Washington Lightkeepers Association and Kitsap County Facility, Parks and Recreation. On Aug. 12, Silverport Sound performed and on Aug. 13, the S’Klallam Tribal Drummers arrived via canoe, delighting the crowd of about 70 with traditional songs including a Welcoming Song, Killer Whale song, Where Are We Going song and a Friendship song with crowd participation.

The Friends of Point No Point Lighthouse debuted at the event as a newly incorporated non-profit group which aims to support the preservation and restoration of the lighthouse. Charter members hope to serve to educate the public about its history and support plans by the county to preserve the area surrounding the lighthouse.

Elected officers include President JoAnn Johnson, Vice-president Scott Jamison, Treasurer Dr. Charles Nicklin, Historian Marion Kling; Member-at-Large Paulette Cziske and Consulting Board Member Elinor DeWire.

While the group is now accepting memberships for the new organization, President JoAnn Johnson said the next task is getting a Web site up and running.

Membership for the Friends of Point No Point Lighthouse is $20 per year which includes a membership card and quarterly newsletter. For more information or to become a member, write to Friends of Point No Point Lighthouse, P.O. Box 428, Hansville, WA 98340 or e-mail to friendsofpnp@wavecable.com.
