The sun was brightly shining over the Port of Kingston as members of the Greater Kingston Kiwanis, the Kingston Rotary and the Kingston Chamber of Commerce all chipped in to feed Mimi Smith-Danielson and her crew.

Some 50 individuals brought a dish and a recipe to celebrate Mimi’s retirement from the catering business. Mimi could not resist serving with her crew — Linda Carter, Kelley Roots and Julie Raines — just before she thanked all for making her last 25 years heading Little City Catering such a joy.

Of course, Mimi has not fully retired, as she is still a nurse practitioner in private practice at West Sound Orthopedics in Silverdale. And she made sure her old clients can still be served; contact Anna Moore of Misueno, (360) 860-0303.

While everyone was celebrating Mimi with the great food and a wonderful cake, the members were starting to plan the next coordinated event — the Valentines Gala. While it seems like it is far away, there are important decisions to make. What classic movie will be shown the Sunday before Valentine’s? Who will provide the great auction items and help sponsor this event to support the North Kitsap Boys and Girls Club? (If you would like to help with the Valentines Gala, give Judy Osborn a call at (360) 297 4693).

All were surprised that the club has grown to serve some 100 children in the middle-school program. Of course, Mimi solved one problem. She promised to cater this one event to help the kids. And so, after 25 years of serving our community, her commitment goes on.

Put a mark on your calendar for the Cougar–Husky Food Drive on Nov. 17 at IGA and Albertsons. Pick up some Thanksgiving food items for the hungry and put them in the cart for either the Huskies or the Cougars. And do not forget to stop by and have breakfast at the Oak Table on Thursday morning to meet the new president of the Greater Kingston Kiwanis, Pat Bennett-Forman.

New Kiwanis officers selected
Greater Kingston Kiwanis Club members elected officers for 2012-13 at their October dinner meeting.

Kiwanis District Lieutenant Governor Tom Armstrong swore in Pat Bennett-Forman as the new club president.

Other officers sworn in included co-vice-presidents Wendy Armstrong and Dahlia Malin, secretary Eric Roth, and treasurer Judy Osborn.
