Reminiscent of movie gun-toting mavens Thelma and Louise, two women suspected of taking part in a holdup incident July 20 at the Taco Time restaurant just off Bethel Road in Port Orchard, were captured later that evening by Port Orchard Police.
One of the suspects was seen by employees at the restaurant, located at 1605 Vallair Court, prior to the business opening its doors for the day. Employees told police detectives that a white female in her mid-20s had loitered near the business until it opened at 10:30 a.m. Five minutes later, the woman walked inside and pointed a black semiautomatic weapon at employees and demanded they hand over cash.
She then left the restaurant and jumped into an older brown or tan Chevrolet S10 pickup truck waiting across the street. At the wheel of the vehicle was a white female getaway driver.
Working off of fresh leads, the detectives teamed with Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies and found the getaway driver at a home on Sidney Avenue later that evening.
That suspect, a 48-year-old Port Orchard woman, was arrested by police. She told detectives that in addition to being the getaway driver in the Taco Time holdup, she also was involved in a Sunday robbery at Sally Beauty Supply, also on Bethel.
At about 7:15 p.m., police said, the other pistol-toting suspect arrived at the residence, where she also was arrested and taken into custody.Schuster said the armed robbery was unusual in that it took place early in the day at a fast-food restaurant.
“There were plenty of people nearby and the escape route was pretty cluttered,” Schuster said. “It’s also unusual because fast-food restaurants don’t have lots of cash on hand.”
As to the bandit and accomplice being female? Schuster said, “Girls can be bad boys, too.”
