Ferry sailings return for Bremerton-Annapolis, Kingston

A little over a month after being pulled from service for repairs, the Admiral Pete has rejoined Kitsap Transit’s active foot ferry fleet.

KT announced the resumption of the regular sailing schedule for the Bremerton-Annapolis ferry route Sept. 6, as ferry riders got their first looks at the Admiral Pete making crossings in Sinclair Inlet since late July.

The boat had been sidelined after the agency originally reported it had caught fire July 29. The crew noticed smoke emitting from the engine room, and an emergency response from the crew of the Waterman foot ferry helped cool the vessel. The number of crossings were cut roughly in half as a result.

Agency spokesman Sanjay Bhatt said Sept. 10 “a coupling failed on the engine” but said the incident produced just smoke and heat, not a fire.

The cost of repairs was unavailable.

Meanwhile, in North Kitsap KT announced Sept. 9 that the full sailing schedule for the Kingston-Seattle route would resume the next day. The M/V Finest, typically a back-up for the route, had been out for repairs but made its return Sept. 10.

Sails to return to the active schedule include the 10:45 a.m. weekday sailing from Seattle, the 4:25 p.m. Saturday sailing from Seattle and the 5:20 p.m. Saturday sailing from Kingston.
