KINGSTON — Is North Kitsap home to the next Monet? It’s difficult to say for sure, but next weekend could reveal such talents as the North Kitsap School District Festival of the Arts paints its way into Kingston Junior High.
Artists from throughout the to will showcase their talents throughout the school, taking over the classrooms, commons and even the gymnasium from 6-9 p.m. June 6. But art at the free festival won’t limited to the canvas, either.
The festival is free of charge to the public.
In addition to the award-winning KJH Cavaliers band, a jump and dance squad, a sasse drum group and a American History through rock group the Galletta School of Dance, a poetry reading group, a fashion show and the Northwinds Quintet are also scheduled for the event.
“It truly has an atmosphere of a festival,” said KJH art instructor James Andrews. “It’s a school district wide festival. Everyone in the school district that has art work to share can put it on display. We seem to keep adding more events to the festival every day.”
Between 300-500 people are expected to attend, and Andrews said it’s important for students to understand that artistic expression shouldn’t end when they leave the school building at the end of the day, or even when they leave the district after graduation.
“Arts take place in every aspect of life,” he said. “It’s great to bring all of these adults to the festival because it shows students that art can be a lifelong hobby. It’s something they can continue after they get out of school. They can follow their passion for as long as they want to.”
