KINGSTON — A fiberoptic cable was cut in the Kingston area Monday afternoon, causing an outage affecting 1,100 CenturyLink customers.
CenturyLink spokeswoman Jan Kampbell said the cut occurred about 12:25 p.m. She did not know who or what was responsible.
“The outage impacts inbound, outbound and Internet services as well as 911 services,” she said. “It is CenturyLink’s priority to restore 911 services as soon as possible, as customer safety is our priority. Customers in the Kingston/Hansville area are instructed to use cell phones to call or drive to the nearest fire department.
“CenturyLink technicians are on site working hard to restore services as it places a priority on public safety and customer service.”
On Facebook, Michele Laboda, spokeswoman for North Kitsap Fire & Rescue also recommended that CenturyLink customers in the affected areas use their cell phones in the event of an emergency.
Wayne Kier wrote on Facebook that Jefferson Beach, Jefferson Point Road, Indianola and White Horse are also affected by the outage.
