Taken from an incident reports by a Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputy:

Fire department personnel and Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies speculate that an Olalla house fire, reported by a patroling Tacoma police boat, could have been intentionally set.

None of the home’s occupants appeared to be nearby when the first Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputy arrive at the scene around 4:24 a.m. July 4.

Another deputy arrived at 6 a.m., as fire crews finished putting out the fire.

The fire taken a peculiar rout, he noted.

All of the structures on the land–including a boat, a metal building, an old motor home, an old U-haul truck, a travel trailer and the wood frame building–had completely burned to the ground.

But it didn’t appear that the fire had spread naturally between the structures.

For example, boat that burned down sat about 200 feet north of the house that had burned down, with no indication that the fire had spread between the two, he noted.

He gave his business card to fire department personnel and researched the incident further.

During his research, he discovered that the property owner, a 68-year-old man, had been involved in a domestic dispute with another man who had lived there.

He had served first a restraining order, then an eviction notice, on his roommate.

His roommate had apparently built the house for the property owner, and there was a dispute regarding the payment. And the man who owned the land allegedly locked some of his roommate’s tools in the house.

Investigation about the home fire continues.
