BREMERTON — There were no injuries in a residential fire that started around 11:33 p.m. Oct. 13 in Bremerton.
A duplex on Stephenson Avenue caught fire, starting in the kitchen, though the official cause was unknown as of Wednesday morning.
Fire Chief Al Duke of the Bremerton Fire Department said the cause was “probably food on the stove,” but that investigators were still working.
One half of the duplex was empty, Duke said, but the other half housed nine residents, three adults and six children. They are currently in temporary housing thanks to Red Cross due to the significant damage to their home.
Duke said that there were some issues with the 911 call that alerted the fire department, initially sending fire crews to the wrong address.
“Sometimes when people panic, they don’t always give their right address or they give their old address,” Duke said. “We’re looking into that right now.”
What exactly went wrong with the 911 call was unknown Wednesday morning.
