Fire ripped through a double-wide trailer at 640 SW Bay St. Friday afternoon, closing State Route 166 in both directions for more than an hour.
South Kitsap Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Mike Wernet said the fire was first reported at 10:52 a.m. When SKFR arrived at the trailer, more than 50 percent of the home was engulfed in flames. Wernet said four fire engines and more than 10 firefighters quickly doused the fire after knocking down a front window to get at the flames.
The initial investigation showed no injuries to humans or animals, Wernet said. The owners of the home were at work in Belfair at the time of the fire. Wernet said damage to the home was extensive, making for a “complete loss.” A Kitsap County Fire Marshal would investigate the cause of the fire.
Neighbor Seanda Williams was at her home just down the street when she heard dogs barking. By the time she noticed the fire, she said, the trailer was engulfed in flames. She said she had lived next to the owners of the double-wide for more than 10 years.
“This is devastating,” she said. “I highly doubt they have insurance.”
