Fired police officer appealing termination

BREMERTON — Larry Green was fired from his job as a Bremerton police officer four months ago following an internal investigation that found he had a “consistent and recurring pattern of violating the civil rights of individuals.” Over a two month time frame in fall 2014 Green was involved in a series of incidents including mishandling evidence, filing inaccurate reports and detaining a handcuffed suspect in the back of his patrol car for 6-11 hours. BREMERTON — Larry Green was fired from his job as a Bremerton police officer four months ago following an internal investigation that found he had a “consistent and recurring pattern of violating the civil rights of individuals.”

Over a two month time frame in fall 2014 Green was involved in a series of incidents including mishandling evidence, filing inaccurate reports and detaining a handcuffed suspect in the back of his patrol car for 6-11 hours.

Green is appealing his termination.

On Sept. 30, attorneys for Green and the city met for pre-hearing with the Bremerton Civil Service Commission at the Norm Dicks Building.

Green’s attorney, Jean Jorgensen, contends that Green wasn’t given due process. Jorgensen said there were flaws in the way Bremerton Police notified Green of allegations and hearing dates. In particular, Jorgensen claims that Chief Steve Strachan gave the dates to Green’s union representative instead of directly to Green.

Recently retired Bremerton police sergeant Bill Endicott is expected to testify at the hearing. Endicott was Green’s supervisor for several of the disputed incidents. Endicott lives in Florida now and may possibly testify via Skype.

Green’s next hearing Oct. 12.
