A running log of how the weather is impacting North Kitsap

— The Kitsap County Emergency Operations Center activated to Phase 2 at 1:15 p.m. Monday in response to anticipated issues caused by heavy rains and breezy conditions.

There are reports of flooding in areas and roadways are congested with overflowing culverts, high tides and collisions, the EOC reported. “Conditions are potentially dangerous in certain areas and we are asking citizens to be safe during your travel in the next few hours,” the EOC reported. — Because of deteriorating weather conditions, all after-school activities and events are canceled for Monday, according to the North Kitsap School District. All school and community events scheduled to take place in district facilities are also canceled. For updates, go to www.nkschools.org.

— Kitsap County Public Works is making filled sandbags available outside of each road shop. Here are the addresses:

  • South Road Shop, 2339 SE Cedar Road, Port Orchard.
  • Central Road Shop, 1971 Seabeck Highway NW.
  • North Road Shop, 301 Bernt Road NE, Poulsbo.

— Kitsap County Public Works crews are reporting water over the roadway in several locations because of the high volume of rain Monday. Motorists are urged to use extra care and caution while traveling.

At 12:30 p.m., two closures were reported on county-maintained roads: Seabeck Highway, south of Miami Beach at 7170 Seabeck Highway; Arnold Avenue, off Beach Drive in South Kitsap.

— Because of excessive rain, Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management has activated the county’s Severe Weather Shelter Plan.

The shelter will open Monday at 6 p.m. Hours of operation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Guests will not be able to check into the shelter after 10 p.m.

The shelter is at Bremerton Food Line, 1600 12th St., Bremerton.

The shelter will serve all residents in our area who require safe overnight refuge where none is available. Further activations will be weather dependent. For more information, call 211 or call Kitsap Community Resources at (360) 478-2301.

— 10:13 a.m.: Flooding reported at West Kingston Road and Lindvog Road.

— 10 a.m.: Two-car collision on Highway 305 at the Masi Shop, Suquamish.
