KINGSTON — A former Kingston High School student was arrested Sept. 5 after two men told school staff the student was angry at the school and had access to weapons.

The school contacted the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office at 3 p.m. on Sept. 4 after the two men told school staff of the perceived threat. Deputies responded and asked detectives to assist.

The nature of the alleged threat was not disclosed. School was in session as normal Sept. 5, said Kori Henry, assistant to the superintendent.

The alleged threat was made in August, Assistant Superintendent Chris Willits told the North Kitsap Herald. He said he is not sure the two people who came forward waited before coming forward with the information.

The district was told by deputies the night of Sept. 4 that — based on the investigation — there was no imminent threat, Willits said.

Willits did not know the specifics of the alleged threat.

The former student, an 18-year-old, was booked into Kitsap County Jail on suspicion of felony harassment and unlawful possession of a firearm or firearms. Total bail is set at $200,000.

At time of the arrest, the former student did not have a weapon on him, but he had access to weapons, according to sherif’s spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson.

Kingston High School staff and district administration “continue to be in close contact with law enforcement as they carry on their investigation into this matter,” Willits emailed parents. “We have communicated with students and staff about the incident and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.”
