A former substitute teacher in the Bremerton and Central Kitsap school districts has been charged with first-degree child molestation.
James D. Carnegie, 65, of Silverdale was arrested Jan. 2 and made his first court appearance Monday. He remains in Kitsap County Jail on $25,000 bail.
Carnegie is accused of molesting a 5-year-old female relative Dec. 29 at a home on Naval Avenue in Bremerton while he was babysitting her, according to Bremerton Police Detective Sgt. Kevin Crane.
Bremerton School District spokeswoman Patty Glaser confirmed Carnegie was a substitute teacher in the district and had subbed at both elementary and secondary schools. He was first hired in November 2007 and substituted four to five times this school year.
“He hasn’t subbed a whole lot in our schools,” Glaser said.
She said he will not be substitute teaching in the school district in the future.
Carnegie also substituted in Central Kitsap schools, according to the CK School District, and is no longer a substitute teacher.
Carnegie allegedly molested the girl and forced her to watch pornography on a computer with him, according to Crane.
Crane said Carnegie has admitted to most of the allegations made against him.
He will appear in Kitsap County Superior Court Jan. 27.
