A naval command master chief stationed at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor has been charged with child rape, according to Kitsap County Superior Court documents.
Kitsap County Superior Court issued a warrant for the arrest of Daniel C. Jones, 39, Friday, Jan. 30. Charges specific to the warrant include two counts of second-degree child rape and one count of communication with a minor for immoral purposes.
Jones, of Bremerton, is not in custody, but currently under Navy control, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).
Until just recently, Jones served as chief of the boat on the USS Louisiana’s blue crew for about three years. The submarine is homeported at NBK-Bangor.
KCSO began an investigation Jan. 13 concerning allegations involving “sexual contact between Jones and underage female victims,” according to an e-mail from Deputy Scott Wilson, KCSO spokesman.
Court documents state that Jones had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl known to him “on more than 10 occasions.”
The teenager said Jones showed her a book describing adults having sexual intercourse with children. Jones then “told her that he wanted to do that with her,” according to court documents.
A 12-year-old girl told a church youth pastor Jones showed her the same book discussing intercourse. She said he “put his hands down her pants,” according to a police report.
Jones told the girls not to tell anyone because he’d go to jail for it. Court documents also stated that Jones threatened to kill himself if the alleged incidents were reported to law enforcement.
When Jones is made available to civil authorities, he will be taken into custody and booked into Kitsap County Jail on $250,000 bail, according to court documents.
