SUQUAMISH — Suquamish Tribe Chairman Leonard Forsman expressed sadness Monday at the passing of former Poulsbo City Councilman Dale Rudolph, saying Rudolph helped build relationships and cultural understanding between the city and the Tribe.

“He was a pretty straight shooter, a non-nonsense kind of guy,” Forsman said Monday night. Rudolph helped build “the city’s early government-to-government relationship with the Tribe. He was very respectful of the Tribe. He was also committed to the history of Poulsbo, and was helpful to us understanding each other culturally.”

Rudolph, president of the Poulsbo Historical Society who served on the council from 1993-2010, died July 6 at 7:25 a.m. after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis, according to his family. He was 65. He was also a member of the North Kitsap Herald Community Advisory Board.

A celebration of his life is scheduled for Aug. 3, 2 p.m., at Rudolph’s church, North Kitsap Baptist Church, 20516 Little Valley Road NE, Poulsbo. A reception will follow at the Poulsbo Sons of Norway on Front Street.
