Forum on proposed incorporation of Silverdale Jan. 17

The Central Kitsap Community Council and Silverdale Chamber of Commerce host a forum addressing “the good, the bad and the ugly” about the incorporation of Silverdale on Jan. 17, 7 p.m. at the Central Kitsap High School Southworth Auditorium, 3700 Anderson Hill Road.

SILVERDALE — The Central Kitsap Community Council and Silverdale Chamber of Commerce will host a forum addressing “the good, the bad and the ugly” about the incorporation of Silverdale on Jan. 17, 7 p.m. at the Central Kitsap High School Southworth Auditorium, 3700 Anderson Hill Road.

A panel of representatives from three recently incorporated cities — Covington, Kenmore and Maple Valley — will take questions from moderators and the public. Questions to the panel will be aimed at helping residents address their concerns on what incorporation means for a previously unincorporated area and address issues such as new taxes that might be imposed, the changing city-county relationship, the transfer and quality of services, and impacts of incorporation on the county.

Silverdale residents will vote on incorporation in a special election Feb. 12. With an estimated population of 19,140 — according to Citizens United for Silverdale — Silverdale would be Kitsap County’s third-largest city.

Elections Manager Dolores Gilmore said 9,695 ballots will be mailed to Silverdale voters Jan. 23. Documents related to incorporation, including proposed city boundaries, are available here.

For more information about the forum, contact Central Kitsap Community Council President Richard Shattuck, (360) 698-5560, shattucklaw@earthlink.net; or Angela Sell at the Silverdale Chamber of Commerce, (360) 698-7408, anjisell@yahoo.com.
