LITTLE BOSTON — A 4-year-old boy is responsible for alerting adults and getting help for a 10-year-old girl after the female’s “quad” — a four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle — rolled over her here Sunday evening.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue crews were called to an address on Hood Canal Drive, near its intersection with Little Boston Road, shortly before 7 p.m. Arriving on scene, they found the 10-year-old suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.  The girl was transported by aid unit to Harrison Hospital.

Crews learned that the girl had been riding the quad when it rolled over her on uneven ground.  Although the helmet she was wearing protected her head, she may have sustained some injuries when the vehicle briefly pinned her. She told firefighters that she’d wriggled free, and was yelling for help. The 4-year-old was the one to first hear her cries and, upon seeing that the girl was hurt, ran back to the nearby house to tell the adults there to call 9-1-1.

Firefighters congratulated the boy for doing the right thing, and plan to invite the little hero to the station for a special tour in the near future.
