Fourth of July pancake breakfast tradition continues in Hansville

Long time Hansville and Eglon residents say the annual Fourth of July pancake breakfast has been held for at least 40 years.

“It started as a pot luck picnic in the mid 40’s and evolved into the popular pancake breakfast in 1969,” said Fred Nelson, president of the Greater Hansville Community Center.

The GHCC was organized in 1941 as the Hansville Eglon Community Club and the popular July 4 community get-together followed soon after, he said. The breakfast event has continued to attract more and more people each year. Last year, approximately 600 breakfasts were served at the event.

The popular “Red White and Blue Extravaganza Pancake Breakfast” will be held from 8-11 a.m. at the Greater Hansville Community Center at Buck Lake Park in Hansville. Breakfast includes pancakes, ham, scrambled eggs, fruit, juice and coffee. Food and special entertainment is delivered by the Boot Scootin Grannies. The cost is $6 for adults; $4 for children 3-10; and children under 3 are free. All proceeds go toward the operation of the community-owned center.
