KINGSTON — Beth Anne Galloway has organized a community Thanksgiving dinner for Thanksgiving Day, 1-4 p.m., in the Kingston Community Center.
“It’s open to anybody who wants to come and it’s free,” she said.
Galloway organized the event to ensure people who are homeless or alone will be able to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner.
“Volunteers have been coming out of the woodwork,” Galloway said. “Thirty-one people are coming to serve.” Regarding food being prepared and donated for the dinner, “People are giving and giving and giving.”
Here’s something she could use: “We have a lot of cold vegetables, but we don’t have any hot vegetables. We don’t have any green bean casseroles.”
If you’d like to prepare a hot vegetable dish for the dinner, contact Galloway at 360-731-9973.
Galloway said she expects 150-200 people to show up. “That’s not including people who don’t have any place to go,” she said. The hall holds 150 people at one time. “That’s why we’re doing it for three hours,” she said.
Galloway said she hopes this is the first of many community Thanksgiving dinners. “If it goes well, I’m going to keep it rolling,” she said.
