HELP A SENIOR
Home Instead Senior Care of Bremerton is sponsoring a community service project called “Be a Santa to a Senior.”
The purpose of the program is to positively impact the community by providing Christmas cheer to seniors who are least likely to receive a present during the Christmas season. Many are lonely, financially challenged or in a nursing home.
Since 2005, Home Instead Senior Care has provided home care services to seniors. Staff help them maintain their independence by providing assistance with personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders, stand-by assistance if unable to walk safely and help with errands.
To sponsor a senior, call (360) 782-4663.
SHORELINE UPDATE OUTREACH
Kitsap County is required to update its Shoreline Management Master Program (SMP) by 2012.
The Washington Department of Ecology is providing funding to conduct the update. The SMP is a comprehensive land and water use management plan that includes policies and regulations for use and development of Kitsap’s shoreline. Kitsap County has about 230 miles of saltwater, stream and lakefront shorelines that support diverse environmental, economic and recreational uses. The Department of Ecology ultimately approves the updated plan, but citizens and county government cooperatively develop an updated plan that is proposed to the Department of Ecology.
Several meetings are planned to encourage stakeholder participation in an advisory group to guide these efforts. Those interested in attending an update outreach meetings or who want to be included on the informational mailing list, call (360) 337-5777 or e-mail openline@co.kitsap.wa.us.
