Stacy Nold selected as Thunderbird Pro Rodeo queen
Thunderbird Pro Rodeo recently named Stacy Nold, 17, of Poulsbo, as the 2008 rodeo queen.
The North Kitsap High School senior is an active member of the FFA organization and is active on the Dairy and Food Science teams. Her animal project for the year is raising pigs for showing at the Puyallup and Kitsap County fairs. After graduation this year, Nold plans to attend Olympic College where she will major in the physical therapy program. In the future, she plans to attain a master’s degree at Central Washington University.
“I’m very excited to be a part of this rodeo because it supports Corey’s Day on the Farm for Special Needs Children and the Northwest Burn Foundation. I have been helping with the Day on the Farm for the past seven years and I really believe in the program. I am looking forward to representing the rodeo and hope that I can raise awareness about the rodeo and its beneficiaries,” Nold said.
She has been a standout in the rodeo arena for several years as a member of the Northwest Junior Rodeo Association and also is an active barrel racer and team penner.
The fourth annual, award-winning Thunderbird Pro Rodeo is today and tomorrow at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds and Events Center. The rodeo was recently named Rodeo of the Year by the Northwest Professional Rodeo Association and is one of the few benefit rodeos in existence.

The Bremerton High School Class of 1988 is having its 20-year reunion at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Admiral Theatre.

NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Jeanie Schulze of Silverdale has been elected chair of the Literacy Council of Kitsap’s Board of Directors.
Other officers for the 2008-09 program year include, Dr. Frank Spargo of Poulsbo, vice chair; Dave Rubens of Silverdale, treasurer; and Terry Schroeder of Silverdale, secretary.
The Literacy Council helps Kitsap adults 16 and older build their skills to get jobs or re-enter the workforce with services they often cannot get elsewhere, including individualized GED preparation, English as a Second Language tutoring, citizenship preparation, family literacy for parents and tutoring in reading and other basic skills. SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
The Olympic College Foundation recently awarded more than $165,000 in scholarship funds to 85 new or continuing Olympic College students at the 2008 Donors and Scholars Dinner at the Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside.
Scholarship awards ranged from $200 to $3,000 per academic year for educational costs and were presented to students at the dinner. The dinner was a celebration of Olympic College Foundation donors, as well as the student scholars who are so deeply affected by their generosity.
CAMP INVENTION
Children will explore Mars and renovate an art museum’s sculpture garden at Sylvan Way Christian School this summer.
Camp Invention returns to the school in Bremerton July 7-11. During a module called M.A.R.S. (Moving at Rocket Speed) Camp Invention participants will plan and execute a trip to Mars, becoming the first astronauts to explore the planet. In Art Park, participants will attempt to save a museum from the threat of losing donations by designing a new sculpture garden to please the public and the museum’s largest donor. During Saving Sludge City, the Camp Invention team will rebuild and clean a polluted city, making it a more eco-friendly environment for its residents.
The Camp Invention program, open to children entering first through sixth grades, fosters creativity, teamwork, inventive-thinking skills and science literacy. The program was created in 1990 by the National Inventors Hall of Fame Foundation. It receives support from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
The $225 registration fee includes daily snacks and a T-shirt. A discount of $20 per child is offered with the bring-a-friend program. There also is an additional $5 discount for online registrants.
