Candidates must be Kitsap County residents and veterans with an honorable discharge. Fifty-one percent of advisory board members must belong to local branches of nationally recognized veteran services organizations.

The Veterans Advisory Board was formed to advise the Board of County Commissioners on the needs of local indigent veterans, the resources available to local indigent veterans and programs that could benefit local indigent veterans and their families.

An application and position description may be obtained from Jan Koske, Kitsap County volunteer services coordinator, at (360) 337-4650 or jkoske@co.kitsap.wa.us. An application also may be completed online at www.kitsapgov.com/volunteer/frmbrdapp.htm. Applications should be submitted no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25.

VOLUNTEER OMBUDSMEN NEEDED

The Long Term Care Ombudsman needs more advocates. Volunteers spend four or more hours each week visiting with the residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult family homes, working to ensure their care is good and residents’ rights are being respected.

An initial four-day training is held in the Silverdale area and begins soon. For an application packet or more information, call (360) 337-5714.

HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL OPENING
