NAVAL ACADEMY GRAD
Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Alan Moyer, son of Navy Capt. Richard and Katherine Moyer of Bremerton, recently graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. and was commissioned to his current rank in the United States Marine Corps.
Moyer successfully completed four years of intensive academic, physical and professional training. As a graduate of the Naval Academy, Moyer completed a four-year, total-immersion program where a strong, balanced academic program focused on the educational needs of the Navy and Marine Corps, is superimposed on a strict, professional military training environment emphasizing the development of leadership skills.
SCHOLARSHIP
PULLMAN — Samuel Newell was awarded a $1,500 Claude and Kathleen Irwin Regents Scholarship by Washington State University. The award is given annually to a student in political science or pre-law.
Newell graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 2007 and expects to graduate from WSU in 2010 with a degree in sociology and Spanish. He is the son of Brenda and Richard Newell of Silverdale.
SCHOLAR AWARD
PULLMAN — Brittany Corley was recently awarded the Washington State University Mortar Board Outstanding Freshman Scholar award. She also was invited into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Corley is a biochemistry major with plans to be an orthodontist. She is the daughter of Randy and Michelle Corley of Silverdale.

MOSCOW, IDAHO — Bremerton resident Sean Finucan, attending the College of Business and Economics at the University of Idaho, was recently named to the spring 2009 dean’s list. To be named, students must earn a 3.5 gpa or better while taking 12 credits.
SAILORS RECOGNIZED
The Silverdale Chamber of Commerce recognized the Marine Security Battalion Marine of the Quarter and the Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific’s Master at Arms, Sailor of the Quarter and Coast Guardsman of the Quarter.
The Chamber recognized Master at Arms 2nd Class Sylvester Bolden, Missile Technician 1st Class (submarines) Kenneth Schmidt, Electronics Technician 3rd Class Curtis Dahl and Lance Cpl. Brandon Arey.
READING FUN
The Tracyton Community Library is once again offering its summer reading program for children of all ages.

CKHS REUNION
The Central Kitsap High School class of 1999 reunion is scheduled for Aug. 7-9. The reunion includes bar night, a golf tournament, a night of dinner and drinks and a family picnic. FREE HEARING SCREENINGS
Avada Hearing Care Center in Bremerton is offering free hearing screenings throughout June in honor of Father’s Day and Men’s Health Week.
