NEW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

At its August meeting, the Silverdale Chamber of Commerce Board selected the Executive Committee for the 2009-10 year. The following individuals will make up the committee: president, Chris Koebelin, general manager of the Silverdale Beach Hotel; president-elect, Anji Sell of Edward Jones; treasurer, Ed Hannifan from Prudential Northwest Real Estate; secretary, Lisa Saice, marketing representative for the Central Kitsap Reporter/Bremerton Patriot; and vice president of special events, Linda Moran of Linda’s Legacy Quilts.

The appointments will be made official at this month’s luncheon on Sept. 30 at the Silverdale Beach Hotel.

The Board also would like to thank retiring members Carl Johnson of Abiding Home Care, John Hunter from the Logo Loft and Mike Walton.

Soroptimist International of Greater Bremerton Area, an organization working to improve the lives of women and girls, recently selected the following club officers for the 2009-10 year:

PLANNING COMMISSIONER SELECTED

The Kitsap County Board of Commissioners have appointed Michael Brown to serve as planning commissioner for District 3 for the Department of Community Development.

Brown, a local field agent for Farmers Insurance, brings myriad volunteer, community and professional experience to his new position. He has served as a past board member for United Way, March of Dimes, the Boy Scouts of America, the Bremerton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Salvation Army. In addition, he has more than three decades of volunteer work in Kitsap County for several nonprofit groups including Relay For Life, MS Walk, CAPRI, United Way, Campfire USA, Rotary International, Salvation Army, Kitsap County Fair and Rodeo, Cystic Fibrosis, the Boy Scouts of America and many others.

Brown has worked as a consultant, insurance agent and manager in the private sector since retiring from a 25-year career with the Department of the Navy where he served as a nuclear engineer and project manager.

INTERVIEWS ON NOW

The Culinary Arts Program of Olympic College is interviewing students interested in a career in culinary arts and hospitality management for the upcoming 2009 fall quarter, which begins Monday, Sept. 21.

Certified chefs with extensive industry experience teach the nationally accredited program. The curriculum includes the following: catering and banquets, international cuisine, fine dining, serv safe and baking for restaurants and institutions. VETERANS SOUGHT

The Kitsap County Commissioners are seeking veterans willing to be considered for appointment to the Kitsap County Veterans Advisory Board. Veterans who are interested in achieving maximum use of limited public resources to assist indigent veterans and their families are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be Kitsap County residents and veterans with an honorable discharge. Fifty-one percent of advisory board members must belong to local branches of nationally recognized veteran services organizations.

VOLUNTEER OMBUDSMEN NEEDED

The Long Term Care Ombudsman needs more advocates. Volunteers spend four or more hours each week visiting with the residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult family homes, working to ensure their care is good and residents’ rights are being respected.
