VanAntwerp named NUWC Keyport

director

NAVSEA Executive Director Shari Bourbeau announced the selection of James VanAntwerp to the position of senior executive service Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport Division technical director.

Bourbeau said Van-Antwerp will “oversee the test and evaluation, in-service engineering, maintenance and repair, fleet support and industrial base support for undersea warfare systems, undersea weapons systems, countermeasures and sonar systems,” according to a news release.

VanAntwerp also will direct operations at various small test facilities throughout the United States.

Gerald “Jerry” Richards will continue his current duties as deputy division technical director. VanAntwerp will report to NUWC Keyport Nov. 3.

VanAntwerp most recently served as the engineering and planning manager at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility where he was responsible for the technical specifications and repair procedures for all non-nuclear aspects of ship modernization and repair, according to a news release.

Prior to this position, VanAntwerp was the Waterfront Support Manager at PSNS and IMF where he managed the fleet introduction, in-service support and disposal of today’s technologies on severals classes of ships. He has a bachelor’s degree in naval architecture and marine engineering.

HOSPICE TO OFFER BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT

Hospice of Kitsap County is offering specialized bereavement support to all those in the community who are coping with issues of grief and loss.

Beginning Wednesdays, Nov. 5-Dec. 17, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Red Barn Clubhouse at Country Meadows Retirement Center, Hospice of Kitsap County will host a special six-week group for kids ages 4 to 12 who have lost someone they love.

Also on Nov. 5, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at 3100 Bucklin Hill Road, Suite 205 in Silverdale, Hospice of Kitsap County presents “Coping with Grief During the Holidays.” The Holiday Grief Group will provide support to those grieving during this season. A repeat session is Wednesday, Dec. 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for those unable to attend the earlier presentation.

MONEY RAISED TO COMBAT CANCER

The Tough Enough To Wear Pink? Program, in association with the Kitsap County Fair & Stampede, raised $15,000 for Harrison Medical Center Oncology Services this year.

The money raised will be used for complimentary services for patients who are receiving radiation and chemotherapy at Harrison Medical Center.

In 2007, Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) rodeos across the nation raised $2.5 million for breast cancer research.

The Kitsap Rodeo Cowpokes Committee raises money for the Stampede, the only Northwest award-winning PRCA rodeo.
