A child found what a mother believed to be a container of narcotics at Lions Park in Bremerton and called police Sept. 9. An officer identified the container as being a geocache.
An officer was dispatched at about 4:50 p.m. to a suspicious incident at Lions Park. A woman said her daughter found a black film type container while playing in the bark near a tree. The woman opened it and found a small plastic bag with a white substance in it. She placed the container back where her daughter found it because she “didn’t want anything to do with it,” she told the officer.
The officer went to the area where the woman said she put back the container. The officer opened the container and found the white substance to be paper that stated that the item was a geocache. There were also three dimes in the container. Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where people use a GPS to hide and seek containers called geocaches.
The officer took the container with the paper and dimes and entered it into evidence as found property. The officer didn’t want to leave it at the park because it may cause alarm for more parents if other children find it.
