POULSBO — Gateway Fellowship’s concert featuring Grammy award-winning pianist George Winston raised $12,000 for community services, the church announced this week.

The concert, Sept. 8, was sold out. At the event, lead pastor Tom Duchemin and Mayor Becky Erickson said 100 percent of the net proceeds would be used to meet needs in Poulsbo and North Kitsap.

“Through this effort, Gateway Fellowship is able to provide support to many that are struggling,” Pastor Dave Fischer said.

“This philanthropy includes continuing our complimentary hot dinner on the first Friday of each month as well as every Saturday at lunch. Further, we plan to purchase and install a large generator for the residents of the Hostmark Village Cove Apartments. This will provide our neighbors an essential warming station during the cold winter months ahead.

In 12 months, the church has distributed 170 boxes of complimentary groceries, 110 holiday baskets and disbursed 150 payment vouchers that offset living expenses such as utilities, rent and fuel, Fischer said.

Duchemin added, “As a result of the Winston concert, we will be in a great position to not only continue these programs for the balance of this year, but also expand upon them in 2013.”
