Girls on the Run of West Sound will be hosting its inaugural Dream Big Run-a-thon Fundraiser Nov. 15, at Route 16 Running and Walking in Gig Harbor.
The event will consist of three treadmills “running” for 12 hours each – 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event will be 36 hours of running, walking, skipping, moving, laughing to make a difference in the lives of girls in our community.
Participants can register online to walk or run for one hour on a treadmill at www.raceplanner.com/register/index/GOTRWSrunathon and are asked to commit to raising/donating a minimum of $140.
That’s the cost of tuition for one girl, for one season. If all 36 spots are filled, the council could raise as much as $5,000.
Participants must be at least 13 years old to participate (on the treadmill), but all ages are encouraged to join in the fun.
The money raised at this event will help Girls on the Run of West Sound continue to grow in the Kitsap County, Mason County and Gig Harbor areas. The program has served just under 200 girls in its first year and is currently running its fall program.
Girls on the Run is a 10-week program, designed for girls 3rd-5th grade and uses a curriculum that covers topics such as self-awareness, building healthy relationships and developing personal strengths. The program lessons also include the completion of a community service project and running practice with the end goal of completing a non-competitive 5k.
