HDPA invites women to rev up their buying power.

POULSBO — Women of North Kitsap, to your marks.

The Historic Downtown Poulsbo Association’s third Girls’ Night Out event is putting a green light on great deals and fun specials May 8. The group is hoping Mary Janes hit the pavement at Mach 5 for a perfect pre-Mother’s Day buying bonanza at more than 40 downtown shops involved.

“Everyone that comes down really has a lot of fun with it,” said Good Sense owner Brie Feldbau. Store discounts, demonstrations, giveaways and raffles are all in store.

Also up for grabs are goodie bags, filled with coupon books and free samples. Supplies are limited, and the HDPA recommends shoppers arrive early. The bright pink bags will be available in the walkway between Checkers Espresso & Gallery and Les Saisons. Last October all 500 were snatched up, HDPA’s Constance Gooding said.

Special to this event, Liberty Bay Books owner Suzanne Droppert will hold a collection for North Kitsap Fishline and she’s encouraging other store owners to do the same. During Girls’ Night Out — and through the entire month of May — five donated cans of food will earn buyers a 5 percent discount at Droppert’s shop.

“They are struggling, they need some more food,” she said of Fishline, which recently fell victim to a gasoline theft. “There’s no reason why we all downtown can’t contribute.”

Just three days before Mother’s Day, organizers say the night on the town is a prime opportunity to finish gift buying and get a little pampering in as well.

In-store refreshments, craft and cooking demos, entertainment, spa treatments and wine, cocktail and appetizer specials are planned throughout the various vendors involved. Northwest Boat Rentals will also be offering deals on Liberty Bay cruises.

The event will run from 4-8 p.m.
