At 1 p.m. on June 19, eager golfers will be in their carts listening for the sound of the shotgun, which will start the Swing for Rotary Golf Classic.
The ninth annual tournament will be held at the beautiful and challenging White Horse Golf Course in Kingston.
This is Kingston/North Kitsap Rotary’s premier annual fundraiser, the proceeds of which benefit both local and international projects. Locally, funds support the Village Green Foundation, Feed the Kids Summer Program, Kola Kole Pre-School restoration, Kingston High School student scholarships and the Rotary Blood Drive. Other Rotary efforts include clean water and schools in Central America.
Tournament chairpersons Stan and Alice Amos tell us there is still time to register for the tournament and enjoy a day of fun and festivities at White Horse. The cost is $150 per player and includes green fees, cart, range balls, lunch, drink tickets for beer and wine, and an awards dinner in the Cedar Ridge Club House. If you are not a golfer but would like to attend the awards dinner and silent auction, tickets are available for $35. Email nanjmartin@mac.com for dinner tickets or go to www.knkrotarygolf.com to register.
Local businesses are supporting the tournament by sponsoring a tee or an event. This year’s sponsors include North Kitsap Herald, Liberty Bay Bank, Kingston CPA, Henery Hardware, Kingston Dental, Valley Nursery, Kitsap Physical Therapy, 20/20 Eyecare Center, Sunrise Hill Farm, Apple Tree Cove Animal Hospital, Martha & Mary, Kingston Mini Storage, The Point Casino, Kitsap Credit Union and Columbia Bank.
West Hills Auto Complex is sponsoring the “Hole-in-One Contest” and will reward the lucky golfer who makes a hole-in-one with a brand new auto. Port Madison Enterprises will sponsor the awards dinner. A beverage cart, sponsored by Windermere Real Estate, will navigate the course to provide refreshments.
Registration begins at 10 a.m., so arrive early to collect your lunch, practice on the driving range, and participate in the putting contest sponsored by Ameriprise Financial. Clint Boxman, the incoming Rotary president, will direct the putting contest.
After the tournament, people can gather on the terrace of White Horse Golf Course to participate in the “19th Hole Contest.” Golf balls are thrown off the terrace toward the 18th hole to see who can score a hole in one or land closest to the pin.
June 19 promises to be great fun for golfers and guests, so don’t miss this outstanding event. If you would like to know more about Rotary, join us at our meetings at noon Wednesdays at the North Kitsap Fire & Rescue Station on Miller Bay Road. We gather at 11:45 for lunch before the noon meeting. Email nanjmartin@mac.com for directions.
