Both seasoned pros and amateur golfers can practice their putting skills and raise money for a good cause Thursday evening.
The Paul Linder Educational Foundation’s “Putt for Education” is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Silverdale Beach Hotel.
The annual event raises funds for the Linder Foundation which provides grants to Central Kitsap School District (CKSD) staff and students to enhance educational opportunities.
Linder Foundation board member Stacey Ames said the foundation funds items the school district does not.
Ames said the Linder Foundation board of directors is hoping for a good turnout at this year’s “Putt for Education.”
“It varies from year to year depending on when we have it,” she said. “We’re hoping to have at least 20-25 putters.”
“Putt for Education” participants donate $100 ($50 in pledges for students) or more to secure a spot in the competition. Putters take time to warm up on the greens before the tournament begins.
Putters then do their best to sink putts, while competitors attempt to block various holes on the greens, making putting more difficult.
“People can pay money to have holes blocked to try and get you out of the competition,” Ames said. “It comes down to one person winning.”
Putters will be awarded various prizes after the competition. A silent auction also will be held and beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Ames said the Linder Foundation has helped send students to a debate camp and purchase equipment for special needs students, among other things.
“It’s things that always have to go back to the classroom,” she said.
The Linder Foundation awarded more than $43,000 to CKSD students and staff members during the past 11 years.
Ames said the Linder Foundation does three fundraisers a year: a bowling event in the spring, “Putt for Education” and straight donation letters.
“We keep it pretty simple and it’s all for a great cause,” she said.
