GHAAC elected officers for the term June 2009-2010, details of which are elsewhere in the Kingston Community News.
Dennis Cziske thanked all who had contacted legislators on ferry issues, saying that it really had an impact. There will be a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on June 10 at the Kingston Community Center with Washington State Ferry representatives. They are seeking public input on the reservations system they hope to institute. The Kingston-Edmonds route will be a guinea pig for this program. Ferry riders need a voice in this process.
Cziske also announced that Friends of the Point No Point Lighthouse have planned a beach cleanup day from noon until 3:30 p.m. for May 30. Plastic bags, gloves, cookies and coffee will be provided.
Chief Dan Smith spoke about North Kitsap Fire and Rescue practices. Then Frank Fox requested that a committee be formed to study emergency response times. Smith gave extensive details about personnel, both staffing and training, and about statistical response times.
A report is available upon request from the Miller Bay station. Smith said the fire service needs to put more emphasis on educating the public about fire safety and prevention measures.
The question of forming the requested committee was postponed until next month.
On June 28 there will be a public meeting to review and comment on the proposed Hansville Community Plan which will be presented to the County in August.
It was agreed to submit to the County a letter prepared by the committee on Point No Point Boat Ramp Community Impact regarding proposed improvements at the boat launch and the need to consider the rights of the property owners in the area. The letter included detailed concerns and suggestions, and the committee was thanked for doing a thorough job of presenting the issues.
Compact fluorescent light bulbs are now accepted at the Hansville Recycling Station, although fluorescent tubes are accepted only at the Poulsbo station, and only 10 at a time pere customer per month.
The sign at the corner of Hansville Road and Little Boston is owned by the Community Center, and it is taking over management of the sign posting. Linda Redling will continue to handle the arrangements for posting signs.
Volunteers are needed for the Hansville Pancake Breakfast on July 4.
Kingston requested support for their Fourth of July celebration because some of the normal funding has been reduced. Donations are badly needed and can be sent to Pete DeBoer, P.O. Box 1505, Kingston, WA 98346..
Hansville Summer Market has started up again from noon until 4 p.m. on Sundays at Dragonfly Nursery.
