PORT ORCHARD — After nine weeks of testimony and three days of deliberation, a Kitsap County jury on Tuesday morning found Gerardo DeJesus guilty of two counts of murder for a fatal shooting at the Kariotis Mobile Home Park in East Bremerton.
DeJesus was found guilty of murdering his former girlfriend, Heather Kelso, and Kaden Lum, the infant son of Kelso’s roommate. At the same time, he was found guilty of shooting Kelso’s friend, Matthew Dean, as he tried to run away. He also took shots at Jalisa Lum, the mother of Kaden Lum.
County prosecutors claimed that DeJesus was angry with Kelso after she broke off their relationship. He was also reported for alleged child abuse. He moved out of the residence they shared at the mobile home park and moved in with his ex-wife and their two children in Port Orchard.
Kitsap County sheriff’s deputies quickly homed in on DeJesus as the only credible suspect. He was identified as the sole suspect within a few days of the shooting. Sheriff’s deputies turned their focus to DeJesus and away from any other suspects.
