If there’s a group that really knows how to walk on the wild side, it’s gotta be those feisty Poulsbo Noon Lions. It’s not the largest civic organization in North Kitsap by any means but members don’t ever seem to let that fact get in the way when it comes to digging deep to improve the community.
While the results sometimes take awhile, 10 months in this case, they are rarely anything short of spectacular.
Their latest accomplishment was the repair of the once dilapidated boardwalk. The scenic walkway from Waterfront Park to American Legion Park has enchanted visitors and residents for years. Thanks to Lions, it will continue to do so.
The 40-year-old link, which is certainly one of a kind here in North Kitsap is much more than a means between the two beautiful spaces, though. It is a source of pride for the region in which we live. A symbol that taking a gorgeous waterfront stroll is something residents here hold dear.
The Lions know this. Why else would they continue to take time out of their busy schedules to work on such a project? When they wrapped up work at the site Saturday, members of the club were able to admire what they had done. But there is little question in our minds who will take up the hammer and saw again the next time the boardwalk is in need of repair.
The group’s willingness to tackle such a daunting task, not once but three times to varying degrees over the years, shows that it’s not deterred in the slightest by hard work and elbow grease.
The boardwalk isn’t just a series of planks, nails, nuts and bolts, screws and support beams, it’s a tribute to the lifestyle we all enjoy thanks to our dedicated civic groups. Thank you Lions. Nobody roars like you guys.
