POULSBO — The first Kitsap County T.A.I.L. Program, or Total Arabian Interaction & Learning day of fun, is scheduled July 27, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Sandamar Farm, 4499 N.E. Gunderson Road in Poulsbo.

The Olympic Peninsula Arabian Club hosts this free and informal hands-on experience. Youth groups and families can meet and learn about basic horse ownership and the beautiful Arabian horse in particular — the world’s oldest domestic breed of horse.

Evolving from the ancient deserts of the Middle East, the Arabian is known for its beauty, versatility, energy, intelligence, and gentle disposition. The Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horse will all be featured at this event.

Families can hear from veterinarian Erik Splawn, see horse-and-rider performances with commentary by judge Peggy Splawn, learn about hoof care by farrier Chris Howell, and learn basic horse nutrition and horse-and-rider safety from local 4-H members.

Anyone can have a free photograph taken with the petting horses, provided by photographer Jim Oas. Goodie bags filled with Arabian horse information, coloring pages and more will be available. A $5 hotdog lunch will also be available.
