A man neighbors along Hood Canal Drive say has been honking his car horn while driving over the road’s contested speed tables has been cited with a traffic infraction for improper horn use.
One reporting complainant said the man, 59, has been honking his horn between the hours of 5 – 6 a.m. since the tables were installed last year.
A Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped the man at about 5:35 a.m. last Monday morning while patrolling the area in response to horn honking complaints. According to the report, the man told the officer he was honking because a cat was crossing the road.
“You have to warn them,” he said to the deputy. At no point did the man’s car swerve, the deputy noted.
He also told the deputy his radio was broken because of the road’s condition.
The man had previously been contacted by police in regard to horn honking. According to the deputy’s report, he was listed as a suspect in several horn honking cases using similar excuses, such as warning animals, for why he was honking his horn. The report lists him as a documented “habitual horn honker.”
The deputy wrote the man sped off after he was issued an infraction.
