The Kitsap Harbor Festival will welcome some old staples, and new arrivals, this weekend around Sinclair Inlet. The annual event takes place Saturday and Sunday on the Port Orchard and Bremerton waterfronts. On both sides of the water, the festival will feature vendor booths, farmers markets, beer gardens and live music. The Kitsap Harbor Festival is hosted by the Port of Bremerton. Sharron King, Chair of the Fathoms O’ Fun Board of Directors, a nonprofit organization helping put on the Murder Mystery event at the Harbor Festival, said this year’s Harbor Festival should have some new faces. Quite a few market vendors that have never opened before will be in attendance, she said. The Kitsap Fencing Club will hold demonstrations throughout the day Saturday. And the Murder Mystery event, a moving, interactive play and one of the festival’s largest draws, has a new writer this year. Gryphon Shafer, the owner of DragonFly Cinema, composed an event featuring four crime scenes, 17 clue locations and culminates with the announcement of the murderer at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. King said while it was difficult at times, the Murder Mystery Event and Harbor Festival seem ready to go off without a hitch. “It’s happening, it’s going, it’s gonna happen,” King said, laughing. “And we’re praying for absolute good weather.” Brian Sauer, Port of Bremerton’s Marina Operations Manager, said he was holding out hope for three large sailing vessels to visit Sinclair Inlet over the weekend. While it was not confirmed, the Pleiades, the Lebengro and the Suva were three “tall-class” ships whose captains said they might attend the Harbor Festival. If so, the ships will be open for shoreside tours and dock adventures. “It’s not certain, but we’d love to see them all here,” Sauer said. “They are beautiful vessels with a lot of history.” For a full list of this weekend’s events, visit www.kitsapharborfestival.com.
