The National Weather Service announced part of Western Washington can expect locally heavy rains up to 2 inches in some areas over the next 24 to 36 hours. amount of time.
NWC reported to expect rain, potential flooding and landslides and the the heaviest rain accumulations are expected Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon from the Olympic Mountains eastward. Up to 1-2 inches of rain are possible with local amounts up to 4 inches in the Cascades. The heaviest amounts would occur where thunderstorms add to the general rainfall. High rain rates, up to an inch in one hour (or less), are possible in thunderstorms, making this a higher flood threat than usual.
IMPACTS:
• As a result of this period of heavy rainfall, urban and small stream flooding is possible.
• Possible short periods of intense rain, if they occur, could cause flash flooding and overwhelm storm drains.
• Landslides and debris flows are also possible where these high rain rates occur, especially in steep mountainous terrain.
• Area rivers are expected to have significant rises but remain well below flood stage.
