Our firefighters, volunteers, staff and commissioners are planning to donate $1,000 to support Kingston’s Fourth of July Celebration.
Help us meet or exceed that goal by purchasing raffle tickets at the price of $1 each or six for $5. We will draw names for two grand prizes on July 3 at Tiny Town.
One of the prizes is the parade package. The lucky winner will get two seats on our flagship engine as it leads Kingston’s parade. Holly Mae Salon is partnering with us to provide four prime seats from which to watch the remainder of the parade, and reserved parking for one car.
The other prize is a fire station birthday party. This popular item is usually available only at a handful of charity auctions. It includes invitations, fire-themed decorations and party favors, cake, ice cream, beverages, firefighter games, and a ride in the fire engine.
Get your tickets at Holly Mae Salon or at our headquarters fire station (26642 Miller Bay Road near Kingston). You can call us at 360-297-3619, as well; we will set some tickets aside for you.
LEAVE FIRE-WORKS TO THE PROFESSIONALS: Every year, private fireworks are the cause of too many injuries and, especially during dry seasons, are responsible for too many fires. Furthermore, private fireworks displays are unpredictable, disturbing neighbors while stressing pets as well as the area’s wildlife.
Public displays are staged at predictable times and last for a limited period. For these reasons and many more, we always hope that families will choose to celebrate our nation’s birthday by enjoying public displays rather than purchasing fireworks for private shows.
WATCH FOR THE BURN BAN: As temperatures rise and precipitation decreases, watch for a fire danger burn ban to be implemented. You can check on the current
status of the ban at our web site, www.nkfr.org. Or, you can call the North Kitsap Outdoor Burn Information Line at 297-4888. Both resources will be updated as soon as there’s any change to outdoor burning status.
WILDLAND FIRE PREPAREDNESS: Wildfire can strike in Western Washington and, already this year, has. For tips on ensuring that your home is better able to resist a wildfire, see the “Ready, Set, Go Program” at www.wildlandfirersg.org; Firewise Communities at www.firewise.org; or call us at 297-3619 to get additional information.
