KINGSTON — Hometown electrician and Republican County Commissioner candidate Scott Henden will advance to the Nov. 2 general election after taking 3,936 votes, or 69 percent, in the Sept. 14 primary.

Fellow Republican Matthew Cleverley came in second with 30.82 percent or 1,442 votes. Incumbent Chris Endresen, who ran unopposed on Tuesday, had 99.26 percent of the Democratic count with 8,594 votes.

Henden said the race against Cleverley was well run and they have parted on friendly terms. Henden also said he felt good about his chances in the primary.

“I was believing we would win and (was) working towards that goal,” he said. “The results were certainly positive.”

Henden said there were several factors that helped him, including raising more campaign money than Cleverley, but the biggest one was the fact he has been a resident of the area for 41 years.

“Being from the area really helped,” he said.

Looking toward the Nov. 2 general election and facing Endresen for the second time, Henden said he is confident of a win. He and Endresen ran against each other for the same position in 2000 and Henden earned only 46 percent of the vote.

“I think we have a good chance,” he said. “The politics have changed the past four years within the county.”

Henden will be concentrating on the same issues listed during his primary campaign, such as affordable housing, sustaining family wage jobs, working with small business owners, respecting property rights and handling the county budget.

Henden owns Henden Electric and lives in Kingston with his wife and four children.
