Patty Henderson, a member of the South Kitsap School District board of directors, has resigned from the district’s governing body.

She read a letter of resignation at a board meeting Aug. 3. Henderson was first elected to the board of directors in November 2003. Prior to serving as a board member, Henderson was active as a school and community volunteer.

Henderson, who is a registered nurse, now works in Seattle and said she’s no longer able to attend board meetings and district events. She has four adult children, all of whom attended South Kitsap-area schools.

Henderson represented the director district No. 1 region, which includes Port Orchard, Annapolis, Old Belfair Highway and Gorst. South Kitsap School District will seek applicants to fill the remainder of Henderson’s term, which expires in 2019.

“We are saddened by Patty’s announcement and wish her the best in the future,” board president Greg Wall said. “She has been instrumental in our adoption of policy governance and has always served South Kitsap School District with professionalism.”

South Kitsap School District officials said it will send out details about the board member posting, the application process and deadline. For more information, contact the superintendent’s office at 360-874-7001 or visit the South Kitsap School District website at www.skitsap.wednet.edu.
