Heronswood open house benefit canoe family

The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe will have a public open house of Heronswood Garden, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

KINGSTON — The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe will have a public open house of Heronswood Garden, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10, with proceeds being split between the fund for the garden and S’Klallam’s Canoe Family.

During the open house, visitors will be able to explore the 15-acre garden as well as experience performances by the S’Klallam Singers at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.  Members of the Canoe Family will be on hand to host the event and sell refreshments, including traditional clam chowder.

This event represents the first time Heronswood has been open to the public since the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe took ownership of the property this past summer.

“Many people in Kitsap haven’t been able to visit Heronswood since it was officially closed in 2006,” Port Gamble S’Klallam Chairman Jeromy Sullivan said. “This Open House is about giving people the opportunity to explore Heronswood once again and get excited about its future.”
