Kitsap County Sheriff’s traffic investigators are requesting assistance from the public in identifying a vehicle and driver that were involved in a hit and run collision during last weekend’s snowfall.

The collision occurred around 6:20 p.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of N.E.

McWilliams Road, close to the intersection of State Highway 303 N.E., in East

Bremerton.

A pedestrian, a 45 year-old East Bremerton man, was struck during the collision. He was treated at the scene by medics from Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue and then transported to Harrison Medical Center Bremerton with multiple injuries. No one else was reported injured.

According to reports from patrol and traffic deputies, roadways in Central Kitsap were categorized as being under hazardous driving conditions due to accumulated snow, ice and slush covering road surfaces. The injured man was walking down a steep hill on McWilliams Road when he stopped to assist a driver whose car became disabled in the snow.

The victim was struck from behind by the hit and run vehicle as its driver lost control on the icy road surface as it traveled westbound, downhill, on McWilliams Road. After hitting the man, the vehicle spun around and careened into the disabled car, striking the driver’s side and left front corner before sliding to a stop about 50 yards beyond.

The hit and run vehicle stopped momentarily to let a passenger out; then the car and its driver left the scene of the collision. The passenger ran back to check on the injured man. The passenger was only able to provide limited information about the driver and the suspect vehicle.

Sheriff’s traffic investigators are looking for a dark-colored, early to mid-1990s Chevrolet Lumina, most likely with body damage on the right side of the vehicle. The driver is described as a white male, between 35 and 40 years old, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall and brown-colored, shoulder-length hair.
