Miller-Woodlawn veterans salute
Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park is hosting several events throughout Memorial Day weekend. Boy and Girl Scouts will place flags on all veterans’ graves at the cemetery beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23. Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park is located at 5505 Kitsap Way in Bremerton.
Miller-Woodlawn will host a candlelight service honoring veterans at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 24. The Keith Highlanders Pipe Band will be present at the event as well as a National Guard Table of Remembrance. Taps also will be played.
Rear Adm. James A. Symonds, commander of Navy Region Northwest, will serve as the keynote speaker.
The event will conclude with fireworks after the candlelight service.
Historical military memorabilia will be on display at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park throughout the weekend.

Forest Lawn Cemetery services
The Fleet Reserve Association Bremerton Branch 29 is celebrating Memorial Day with services at Forest Lawn Cemetery, located at 5409 Kitsap Way in Bremerton. The program begins at 11 a.m. Capt. Kenneth Iverson, executive officer at Naval Hospital Bremerton will serve as the guest speaker. The services also include a bugler from Navy Band Northwest and a rifle detail from the U.S. Marine Corps Security Force Company, Bangor.
Aboard the Turner Joy
The public is invited to attend a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25 on the fantail of the destroyer USS Turner Joy. The ship is located near the Bremerton ferry terminal and next to the Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside. The ceremony is presented by the Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Navy League Council.
Capt. Mark Olson, commanding officer of Naval Base Kitsap, will serve as the guest speaker. Colors will be presented by the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Color Guard. The District 4 VFW Ceremonial Honor Guard will perform taps and the rifle salute. A memorial wreath also will be laid from the USS Turner Joy in honor of those who have fallen.
