Hood Canal Bridge inspections planned throughout April

Daytime travelers who use the Highway 104 Hood Canal Bridge in April are encouraged to plan additional travel time.

Beginning April 7, state Department of Transportation crews will conduct a series of in-depth bridge inspections. The inspections will occur 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from April 7-11 and April 14-18. They will require multiple intermittent draw span closures to traffic, a news release states.

The bridge will close to traffic between 15 minutes and one hour each time. The closures will occur at unscheduled times, but every effort will be made to keep closures as short as possible, per the release. Crews will combine inspection-related draw span closures to traffic with marine draw span closures to traffic when possible.

Commuters can get details at Hoodcanalbridge.com, WSDOT email alerts, the WSDOT app and on the statewide travel map.

The bridge will undergo required Blue-Ribbon inspections, which include an overall assessment of its mechanical and electrical systems. All WSDOT floating bridges undergo similar inspections. The inspections require daylight to see inside tight spaces and get detailed observations on components and operations.
